Just on your points for getting tips right.
You should nearly get points for tipping a horse that starts in the Melbourne Cup, if you are tipping in January.
I know somebody, who years ago made a lot of money letting people back a horse to even start in the Melbourne Cup, giving them $11 odds. He was doing this in July/August/and early September. Certainly anyone who tips a Melbourne Cup/Caulfield Cup winner in January deserves a lot more points than someone who tips say a Ladies Wimbledon winner.
The comparison is easy. Most people having a stab at the 8 players who might make the Women's quarter final at Wimbeldon will probably get 4 to 6 right. I defy anyone to name 8 horses now for either Cup, and have 4 of them gain a start. Even if you did, they then become 4 chances in 24/18 runners, as opposed to there only being 8 women left in the quarter finals.
I'm not trying to pop your balloon, but it's possibly things like this that are part of the reason you seem to be struggling to get 10 participants.

Similarly there are other glaring examples: 20 points for a Brownlow/Dally M winner, but 25 points for a Sheffield Shield winner. While everybody is competing for the same points, I'd feel short changed if I picked the Brownlow Medalist now, and got beaten by someone who picked the Sheffield Shield winner. Right now there are only 4 teams that can probably win the Shield, as against 40 or 50 players with a realistic Brownlow chance.

As I said, I'm not trying to pop your balloon, merely pointing out what might possibly be holding some people back from joining. My suggestion would be to either cut back on some events, or make the points match the difficulty. NRL State of Origin is a toss of the coin for 15 points. While most people might struggle to name a horse that will even start in the Kentucky Derby, and need to name the winner for 25 points!

Hey Rowsus, thanks for the feedback. However a lot of what you are concerned about is not an issue due to the rules.

Any tip can be changed prior to it's start date. So if the Tour de France starts July 1, that tip can be changed any time before that date. That goes for every event, except some events (such as those that have already started such as soccer leagues) can only be changed in a specific window for deducted points.

The horse race events do not have fields available yet, so this is why TBA appears in the tip column. Tipping will be available once the field is available and once again can be changed any time before the start date.

As for things like the Brownlow medal and Sheffield shield perhaps I cold re-jig some of that, I'll have a look today. But it's stressed that this is not a comp where all tips are locked in at the start of 2017. It is meant to be interactive comp over the entire year.

Hope this clears most of it up. Cheers mate

As some people may be concerned about not having enough knowledge about the different sports included, I will be posting the most recent results and ladders for some of the events so that you don't have to search all over the internet when making your tips. If there are any events in particular that you want me to post the most recent results/odds for, let me know

Hey sammy, will you be able to post reminders in this thread of cut off dates and change opportunity dates? I reckon that will eliminate concerns for those worried they may forget.

I can also edit thread titles as needed, although i think you might be able to do that as well.

Absolutely, reminders will be made for all events that are upcoming and for change opportunity windows. I'll also update the ladders/results for events as they happen so that people can track whether or not it will be smart for them to make a change during the opportunity window or stick with their initial tip.

That would be helpful IDIG, I think only moderators can change the title..? I could be wrong

I've just posted the latest soccer results and ladders which will hopefully help you guys tip for those events; I will put tennis, basketball and NFL stuff up tomorrow.

Please remember you can change your tip any time before the start date of that event. If you're stressing about 'how on earth am I going to tip the winner of the AFL in January', don't stress. Although I need everyone's initial tips by January 12 at 11:59pm, the tips will only be locked in for the events that indicate started in column C of the excel spreadsheet (until the change period). Other events can be changed at any time and as often as you like BEFORE the start date.

We need a MINIMUM OF 2 MORE PEOPLE so please if you're interested post on the thread or PM me. I'll be posting regularly with sports ladders and results so there's no need to stress if you feel like you don't know enough about the events

Anyone else is welcome to join but we have now reached the minimum for the comp to go ahead. Tips need to get to me before 11:59pm on January 12th (supertipping2017@gmail.com). I know I keep harping on about it, but remember you don't need to stress too much about tipping for events that don't start until later in the year as you can change the tip any time prior to the start date. The only tips that are locked in are tips for events that have started (e.g. soccer leagues) and you may want to pay more attention to upcoming events in January such as the African Cup of Nations and Australian Open. But as far as events like the AFL season and Tour De France go, these can always be changed as the event gets closer.

I'll be updating this thread regularly with reminders of upcoming events and tip change opportunities. Once I have all your tips I'll collate them in a spreadsheet and post as an attachment so we can all see who each other have tipped and create some banter throughout the year.

As far as money entry goes and the initial idea of $20 entry... I'm really open to your guys opinion on this one. If having the money prize was a main reason why some of you entered the comp I'd be more than happy to go ahead with it, but considering this is the first year I have run a competition like this on the site, I'd also be just as happy to do it for fun. That way we could assess how it goes and perhaps make it a money entry next year. Anyway let me know what you guys think about it.

Great stuff mate. I reckon keep the $20 entry, and either winner takes all or 2 places paid for a comp like this.

I was planning to send out payment requests but will hold off until confirmed.

Yeah that suits me if everyone is happy to continue down that path. I think a payout for first and second would be the best way to go rather than winner takes all.
