Having a close look at the list, the natural starting date for this competition looks to be the start of September.

This would work well as there would be high traffic into the lead up, given that entries would open 6 - 8 weeks beforehand.

To maximise participation this year splitting the competition into two parts, one now to mid March and mid March to Aug 30, would garner more interest and help iron out any bugs. Then launch full gear in September this year.

Using Google Forms and Sheet will help greatly with the workload of collecting the data.

    Food for thought?

Hey mate, thanks for the feedback. Very interesting points.. I hope I've understood what you're saying.

I guess starting a comp like this at the beginning of September would have its pro's and con's, but I'm not really sure if a comp like this has a 'natural starting date'. Although the soccer leagues would be only just be starting, events such as AFL and NRL would be winding up. Even though obviously people could change their tips before the 2018 AFL Season started, I still think it would feel funny putting a tip in for the 2018 AFL season when the 2017 season had just finished that month (same with the NRL and NBA). So effectively we would be tipping in September 2017 for a lot of events that don't begin until March or April the following year.

I guess starting the tipping at the beginning of the new year is a convenience thing more than anything. Although 14/47 events have started, IMO that doesn't taking away from the comp. Yes it narrows the potential tipping range down, but it also makes players make some interesting decisions about whether they think the in form team will retain their spot at the top or have it stolen from a lower team by the end of the season.

I apologise if I've misinterpreted you're comment. I agree traffic would be ideal to maxmise players but I'm not sure whether it would be a more natural starting date in September or at the beginning of the year.

Hey Guys, the $20 entry fee will be due before 11:59pm on the 27th of January . This date is due to the Big Bash Final and Ladies Australian Open final being on the 28th and comps like this usually work best if the money is in before we know the completion of any events.

As we'll have a pool of $200, the money will be split between 1st and 2nd placed players as:
    1st: $150
    2nd: $50

IDIG will be taking care of the money side of things and I believe he'll be sending out some PM's to all of you in the near future (thanks IDIG).

Also a reminder that initial tips are due Thursday the 12th of January by 11:59pm. Cheers

Just checking, how many events do we have to have done for submission by tomorrow? Is it down to the Aus Open event?

EDIT: Or do we have to fill out the entire sheet of events?

Hey mate, all events are required to be filled out for tomorrow, however you only really need to pay attention to events #2-15 (which are locked in until its relevant change period). Also the African Cup of Nations (#16) and Australian Open (#17-18) start in the next couple of days so you won't have much time to change these tips.

From event #19 and below you have plenty of time to change the tip as the next event does not start until the 23rd of Feb.

I just think it's helpful if everyone has initial tips and then they can change it as they please as the event draws closer throughout the year

    *IMPORTANT*

After the deadline of tips on the 12th, I received 8/10 of your tips. Thanks a lot to everyone who submitted on time and you all filled the entire sheet out correctly which made things really easy for me.

However I did not receive tips from Zagbag or min0008. As this was quite a small window of opportunity to submit tips, tips can now be submitted any time today until 12:00am...new deadline: 14th January, 12:00am. Unfortunately if I don't receive your initial tips tonight we'll have no choice but to go on with eight or nine players.

This means anyone who submitted tips to me is able to change ANY tip until midnight tonight, after that the normal rules apply. So if you've been second guessing a choice you made and wish you'd picked a different team in any of the 'started' events...now's your chance! This change MUST BE MADE KNOWN either by e-mail to the admin address, post on the thread or PM to me.

    Cheers

    UPCOMING EVENTS

    -Australian Open - Events #17 and #18:

This is a double points selection for 4/9 players:

    Mr Murdoch
    Zagbag
    Goodie's Guns
    The Misfit

Any tip changes must be made before midnight tonight by either posting on the thread, e-mail to admin address or PM to me. A reminder that even if this is your double points selection, the same rules apply whereby you can change your tip at any time before tomorrow.

    The Tips

The men's draw appears to largely be a battle between two.. can Djokovic continue his unbelievable run at the Australian Open to make it 7 titles at the major, or will Sir Andy Murray finally break his nightmare finals run to add the Aus Open to his trophy cabinet?
Only The Experiment is currently brave enough to buck the trend, backing Stan Wawrinka to win his second Australian Open of his career.

    Novak Djokovic = 5 tips (2 DP)
    Andy Murray = 3 tips (2 DP)
    Stan Wawrinka = 1 tip

As for the ladies side if things, I personally think the draw has never been so open. Kerber goes in with the pressure of the number 1 seed and Serena Williams goes in with an unexpected loss under her belt in the second round of the Auckland Classic as well as an awkward first round match-up with up and comer Belinda Bencic. Interestingly, no one has backed in Kerber as the number 1 seed as of yet. Pliskova has been quite a popular selection following her win at the Brisbane International. Although she pulled out of the Sydney International with a thigh injury, this is likely to be a rest tactic prior to the Grand Slam.

    Serena Williams = 5 tips (3 DP)
    Karolina Pliskova = 3 tips (1 DP)
    Johanna Konta = 1 tip

Just a friendly reminder that payment of $20 is due before the 27th of Jan (the earlier the better). Now that we have 9 confirmed instead of 10, the prize money has had to be revised. The pool is now $180 and money will now be distributed as:

    1st: $130
    2nd: $50

    TIPPING UPDATE

KFC Big Bash - Event #2

The competition is very tight at the top, with six teams technically in contention for the top 4. The Heat are locked in, but if the Renegades beat them tomorrow night they could overtake fourth sport on percentage should the Sixers lose to the Stars on Sunday.
It really is a guessing game at the moment... if S. Marsh can find form and actually give Klinger a chop out I think the Scorchers are looking good, but the Stars appear to have the best depth to cover their Australian duties. Anything is possible for the Heat with McCullum and Pierson giving them quick starts with bat... your guess is as good as mine.

Heat = 3 (Mr Murdoch, The Misfit, Slammer)
    Scorchers = 3 (Lenny5, The Experiment, Goodie's Guns)
    Stars = 2 (sammy96, IDIG)
    Renegades = 1 (ZagBag)
    .
    Australian Open - Events #17 + #18

It's hard to believe but Novak Djokovic has bowed out in the second round today following a loss to Denis Istomin...no, I'm not joking.
For 5 of us (sammy96, Lenny5, IDIG, Goodie's Guns and The Misfit), that rules us out of the Men's Australian Open winner. I imagine Mr Murdoch, Slammer and Zagbag will be feeling pretty good about about the Andy Murray selection, especially Mr Murdoch and Zagbag who have given him the DP selection. Despite rolling his ankle last night he still cruised and now sits firm favourite with Novak gone.
And don't forget The Experiment backing Stan, who had a tough 5 setter first up but cruised through the second round against a tough opponent in Steve Johnson, disposing of him in straight sets.

    Novak Djokovic = 5 tips (2 DP) - X (sammy96, Lenny5, IDIG, Goodie's Guns, The Misfit)
Andy Murray = 3 tips (2 DP) (Mr Murdoch, Slammer, ZagBag)
Stan Wawrinka = 1 tip (The Experiment)

Everyone is still in with a chance in the ladies side of the draw. Serena looks her usual dominating self, but Pliskova has dropped only 4 games in her first two matches including two sets of 6-0...impressive. Johanna Konta, who Lenny5 made a late switch to from the safer option of Serena Williams, is also yet to drop a set in her first two matches.

Serena Williams = 5 tips (3 DP) (IDIG, Mr Murdoch, Zagbag, The Misfit, Slammer)
    Karolina Pliskova = 3 tips (1 DP) (sammy96, The Experiment, Goodie's Guns)
    Johanna Konta = 1 tip (Lenny5)
