Nat Fyfe of Fremantle will be a Superstar and also a SuperCoach Superstar, however that is only if his shoulder holds up. With Fyfe's shoulder risk, are you willing to a chance on his shoulder being okay?

    Name - Nat Fyfe (FRE)
    Position - MID
    Price - $498,800
    Average - 93.2(9), 108.0(21), 72.5(16)
Draw - WCE, WBD, ESS, HAW, RIC, GCS, COL, SYD, MEL, ADE, BYE, BRL, NTH

If Nat Fyfe was categorised as a forward / midfielder, he would be a dead-set lock at that price. However, as a midfielder the question becomes:
    • Do I want value?
    • Do I want a guy who will finish in the Top 10?

    REASONS FOR NAT FYFE

Fyfe is in his fourth year and has shown his potential for AFL and SuperCoach superiority.

Averaging a solid 72(16) in his first year then a massive 108(21) in his second year, however a bit like Dustin Martin didn't reach our SuperCoach expectation in 2012. However, to be fair Fyfe had an injury ridden 2012 yet still averaged 93.2 in 9 games.

Unfortunately, the difference this year is Martin is still categorised as a forward / midfielder, but Fyfe is categorised a solely a midfielder and therefore Fyfe is competing against our premium midfielders.

If you are a half-glass full kind of person, you could argue that the position categorisation is irrelevant as Fyfe could turn into Patrick Dangerfield and/or a Dayne Beams who last year became a top 6 midfielder in their own right as a SuperCoach midfielder. And therefore at $498,800, if Fyfe does become a Dangerfield and/or Beams, you have an extra $150K or so compared to others.

    REASONS AGAINST NAT FYFE

Injury concerns is obviously the main concern as Nat Fyfe has had two shoulder re-construction at a very young age.

While Fyfe did play 21 games in 2011, I vaguely remember that Fyfe was meant to be put into cotton wool much earlier, but "The Kid" continued to play with one shoulder and was still getting get great SuperCoach scores (to my disappointment).

In addition to the shoulder concern, the question now becomes is whether Fyfe will be a top 8 midfielder? At a discount price, if Fyfe becomes say a top 15 midfielder, would you be happy?

While I like watching the kid play football, from a SuperCoach point of view, I can't see him starting in initial SuperCoach team in 2013. I can see Fyfe has a decent SuperCoach ceiling evident by his 108 average in 2011, but I feel very uncomfortable about picking a potential SuperCoach star with the injury risk for the midfield.

Unfortunately, an Unlikely for me. Another reason for me is Fyfe doesn't fit my SuperCoach team structure in 2013.

    Verdict: UNLIKELY (4)

I have had him in and out of my team, he is undervalued but is sitting at M5 atm, i was going to start without GAJ as i thought he may drop off this year due to other GC players stepping up but if GAJ looks good at the end of the NAB Fyfe will be downgraded and GAJ will come in.

    Unlikely for me.

The way I see it the mid premiums that I start with I want to be reasonably comfortable that they will finish top 8 mids for points. As good as Fyfe was in 2011 when he averaged 108, I feel it is unlikely that he will be able too improve to average 115+ over 20+ games, give him a couple more years I reckon.

In any other season, hes a (1) lock for me. However, even with an increase number of midfield spots, the midfield spots are still too valuable to pick fyfe)

Interesting, I'm thinking the opposite - more spots means more opportunities to get it right.

This year, most of the good rookie choice are from midfield, and with a floating donut, it should leave you with around 4-6 positions for others. The top scoring supercoach players are also in the midfield, so you want to have a few premium midfielders for captain choices IMO. That leaves you with 1-3 spots left(3 unlikely) for potential break out players. but even so, these few spots are hotly contested(moloney, wingard, monfries, lower, steven, mundy etc). Now, the only good outcome of picking fyfe is when he becomes a top 10 midfielder, since then you don't have to experience the conundrum of deciding whether or not to keep a premum who scores 5-10 less points than others every week. On the other hand, in terms of cash making and value, Fyfe will earn you 150k tops, and thats in the best scenario, while others have greater potentials cash wise. So fyfe isn't only contesting for a spot against othermidfieders, he's also contesting against other midpricers, other premium forwards(1 rookie in midfield= 1 more premium in forward) and same goes for other premium defenders.

But yeah thats just me, fyfe could turn out the way you want him to

Like just about everyone else, he is consistently in my team, and then back out again.
He represesents one of the toughest decisions of the year to me.
As there is no "just can't decide" option, I'll tick "watch".
We're goin' to need a bigger boat...

I'm similar. He is the biggest risk but also has the potential for huge reward. As a mid only I'm leaning towards a no.

He's in my side, and was a LOCK for the past month but after reading this article and seeing his poor performance tonight im slightly more hesitant to pick him.
However, he's got mountains of potential and killed it in the practice match against Adelaide. Gathering 19 touches from his 3 quarters, including a second quarter of 10 possessions, 4 clearances and a goal.

I'd expect him to average 105+ again this season, but is that enough at his dodgy price? I think I would be happy with that and would trade him out after the byes to an underpriced premium mid, in a sideways trade.

I love to watch his play, he's skillful and so determined and has been a proven SuperCoach player, with the added trades available I'm pretty sure i'll take the punt on him.

Gee he was disappointing tonight, then again all of Freo was.

Watch for mine, pretty much for the Rowsus 'Just can't decide' reason.

Does often find his way into my team but he eventually gets removed just as quick. My team never feels 'right' when he's in there.
