Bidding option 1 process (being trialled in 2017)
The free agency period will last up 48 hours or until all coaches run out of funds to sign up any more free agents. From start of the free agency period (5pm) any coach can bid on any free agent. Each coach can use up to 3 bids on a free agent but once someone opens a bid on a player the 8 coaches have exactly 24 hours to try to win that players services to their fantasy football club. The club of any restricted free agent exploring free agency period is not limited to how many times to bid on their restricted free agent. If they want to make only one bid at the back end of 24 hours of bidding to match highest bid they are free to exercise that option if they so wish. They need to be able to have the funds to retain the restricted free agent though, so put some thought into order of your bids. No point winning a bid early on a player that is not a priority signing for you and then leave yourself short of funds for your own restricted free agent to sign on again. If they want to retain that player with no one making an opening bid they need to have those funds of his keeper price at end the players free agency window being open. If they have the funds they can pay for him on their new season primary list. They must announce their intention to retain no later than last hour of free agency period ending. If no one bids on that restricted free agent including previous coach not announcing retaining that player, he goes into the pre-season draft.
There is no compensation picks for players passed over free agency and into the draft. Only compensation picks are possible for restricted free agents being signed up by another club and the club losing that player will be given a compensation pick in pre-season draft in line with their relative value of winning bid and keeper price of better players that go into the draft pool. This is conditional on that club not gaining a restricted free agent themselves in same free agency period.
The bidding amounts will be kept within reason. So an opening bid on a player has to be within 15% of the keeper price listed in pre-season shared spreadsheet for that specific player out of all our listed 448 players from previous end of season. The minimum bid would be $60K for a player that did not play a game the previous season as an example. A player that played the previous season and had a keeper price listed as $600K would have to have an opening bid start at no lower than $510K and no higher than $690K as an example. An increased bid by anyone else must be no lower than $5K increase and no higher than $40K increase and any further bids you make on a player cannot be more than $70K than previous bid at each increased bid of yours.
So if you open a bid on a player realise if you end up using a second and third bid on same player you cannot go higher than 2 lots of bid increases of $70K over your own price offered.
In future years we can review the bidding process and adjust if we see a need.
This should be seen in the light of a bit of trial and error in season one of attempting this. We will give it a spin and see what works and what may not for our game.
