Well done to Matty Priddis on a fantastic career... Not blessed with speed or athleticism, Overlooked numerous times by all clubs then given a shot on our Rookie list... and through hard work and determination turned himself into an All-Australian, Club Champion and Brownlow Medalist.

Great career... And selfless decision to pull the pin on his own with a contract in hand for next season. Priddis is a genuinely good bloke and you would find it hard to say a bad thing about him.

Nice breakout candidate if he pushes through the midfield with those two stars out of the WCE frame.

Luke Partington has won at least 27 disposals in 6 of his past 8 WAFL games. With Priddis out, he'll get a decent crack in the midfield.
Sheed already benefiting from more midfield time this season but should go through the roof next season.

Partington should also get more opportunities but Simmo has been hesitant to play him this year (Word is his defensive running needs work).

Duggan as mentioned will also get more midfield minutes, as will Mutimer.

Yeo might be turned into a full time midfielder next season and Dan Venables is also highly rated and will hopefully debut before end of season if his toe injury clears up.

If Mitchell goes as well as Priddis... I wonder if we are targeting another gun mid in a trade or through free-agency because there would be over a million dollars coming off the cap with those two alone.

I knew you would be all over it LITS.

I have Sheed in fantasy and he is doing well enough in that format, need to check out his SC scores.

I need to get myself up-to-date with your midfield, Gaff and Shuey are more outside, is Masten still in the picture ?

Big Russ just mentioned his mate used to coach Partington as a junior and never seen anyone get so much of it, just let them play, what is with this defensive work and 2 way running, a few of my boys don't like running 2 ways, neither do some of the Giants :-) interesting the Swans do.

big ask though to get Partington, Duggan, Mutimer (another one of my rookies I owned) step up straight away.

I thought I read the other day west Coast were going to make a play for David Swallow ? maybe Rockliff ?

hold on, hold the horse, isn't Kelly a WA boy?

Dusty would like Perth I am sure

there you go then, I know his old man played in the WAFL before he played for North Melbourne, just assumed he was from the west.

Sheed, Redden & Hutchings and Partington are pure inside mids, Shuey is Inside/Outside, Gaff & Jetta are pure outside.

Duggan will become and Inside/Outside, Mutimer & Masten are Mid/HFF as is Venables.

I think Sheed & Duggan are the 2 who will benefit most and have great seasons next year.

Rockliff is an interesing one... Was rumors last year of his interest in West Coast but nothing came of it. His best mate Redden plays here so that is a link. But have been hearing he's a lot happier at the Lions this year and has entered contract talks with the Lions. Dusty is no chance I reckon as Perth is too far from NZ as he like to fly to see his dad often.

Would give my left nut to get Coniglio back home as he's the exact player we need... but he seems happy at GWS and under contract.

thanks LITS for such a in depth analysis , will certainly be keeping an eye out for Duggan and Shred over the rest of the season.

Doubt you will get Coniglio but you never know , think you will need to add someone into the mix until a few of the younger ones develop and mature.

Opportunities are their with Mitchell and Priddis retiring.

    Cheers

Jack Redden has really stepped up these last 4 weeks and finally looks to be getting settled and back to his best form. He was a great player from 2011-2015 in Brisbane and I didn't realize how good his kicking was either. He should be another to benefit.

Was pretty happy with Partington's debut yesterday, didn't look out of place and definitely showed he will be a player for us in the years to come.

Redden had some very good SC and Dream Team numbers at Brisbane for a few years from memory.

    Danger , Cripps , Duggan , Redden , Sheed starting midfield :-)

There has been talk that David Swallow has said to some old connections that he wants to come back to Perth. Ablett will likely retire this year, do GC fight a change?

Interesting that his brother always wanted him at North , but he might be in his last legs too.

Ablett will either go back to the Cats or retire , so with Bennell , O'Meara , Prestia all gone that only leaves Swallow.

Does he stay and with Barlow , Hanley , Lyons , Rischitelli , Hall , Miller etc wait for Ainsworth , Biwes etc etc to develop.

I wonder how different things would be without Ablett , seems from the outside you hear different things on how and when he trains etc etc.

Swallow seems to be getting some consistent games so will be interesting if he leaves as well.

Sam Mitchell has announced his retirement at the end of the season

Mitchell is speaking to the media now, says he had this plan since early in the season but wanted to announce it now before the Eagles' last home-and-away game in Melbourne.

"The idea of opening my computer and doing the coaching side of the things ... has become more exciting than jumping in the pool and doing my own recovery"

Sam Mitchell has now confirmed he will retire. "It's our last fixtured game in Melbourne this year so that's the reason for calling it now."

Not a three time all Australian by any means but much loved by many Carlton fans (writer included) Dennis Armfield to retire at seasons end.
