As much as I would want to start next season with Docherty, I think the smart play is to forgo him and bring him in after an inevitable price drop. Doc will be the most expensive starting defender in recent history at around 700k plus?

My main strategy though will be to finally let go of my favourite oldies, in favour of the young blood.
Last year it was Swan and Ablett who let me down.
This year it has been Pendlebury and Shaw.

Next year will look at starting guys like Bont, Titch, Zerrett, Treloar, Dusty etc mixed in with a few no brainer mid-pricers.

Hard to see my rucks being anything other than Gawn + NicNat.

Robbie Gray as a forward will be locked in 99% of teams.

If Dusty goes, Caddy must be strongly considered as a very underpriced M/F.

does anyone see any significant appeal/upside to Cutler and Mayes ?

Hopper could be worth a look if he goes to Carlton.

    Current 2018 Structure:

    Def: S Docherty, R Laird, J Lloyd
    Mid: P Dangerfield, J Selwood, S Coniglio, P Ahern
    Ruck: M Gawn, N Naitunai
    Fwds: R Gray, H Bennell, A Christensen, C Ellis-Yolmen, S Day

    Bench- 8 rookies= approx 1 million

Should leave approximately 3 million for 8 remaining on field spots.
3 back rookies and 1 fwd rookie should leave 2,400,000 to 2,500,000 for 4 mid premium spots (eg. 4 of Pendles, Kennedy, Neale, Zorko, Cripps, Merrett, etc)

Having one really strong C option, or multiple VC options, is important. I don't feel like anyone has been that useful as VC other than Danger, either because they lack the ceiling, or they have been underperforming or injured. Paying up for Danger is probably worth it on this basis.
This year for my locked in mids I deliberately only chose players who had a high ceiling and who had shown they could hit it multiple times across the season. This is why I think I have had the best scoring year for captains I can recall. Will do the same in 2018

Petracca my watch for next year.
There are no shortcuts to anywhere that is worth going to.

Christensen is a very interesting one if he can get his body right and get some games in succession together.

Look the goods the season before he left Geelong from memory.

be very interesting to see if the full 30% injury discount is applied to Bennell, christensen and Day they could all end up being around the $ 240,000.00 - $ 270,000.00 mark unelss then the owners decide this is too cheap of a price and evryone will have them.

Given none of them have played a game this season 9so far) their positions should not change.

Have been thinking about these two. I know Rocky is on a lot of people's never again lists, but what the view on Fyfe? He's been pretty disappointing, albeit injured and played out of position - but he's rarely looked capable of hitting 120+?

If he plays the rest of the season predominantly in the middle and averages 115, it will be a no-brainer to start him at such a discounted price.

If he plays the rest of the year like how he played today (2015 Nat) then he's a no brainer. Just wish we had that Nat for the first 15 rounds.

I can see Cripps taking the next step if he can get a solid pre-season in and have a good run with injuries. Can see next season as a changing of the guard in terms of who we start with, especially in the mids

D: Lloyd, Laird, Doc, Roberton, Blakely
M: Danger, Dusty, Titchell, Treloar, Cripps/Oliver/Bont, Zerrett, Rocky/Fyfe, Ross, M. Crouch, Pendles, Sloane
    R: Nic Nat, Gawn
    F: RGray, De Goey, Walters

Trade in guys like Jelwood and JPK if form warrants - generally a dip in scoring
Look at starting more 560-590K mids as opposed to spending 5 x 600K+ (ie look for value)- ideally with a high ceiling for VC/C options.
May be sensible to leave 100K in the bank for early corrections (depending on options)
Consider more variable trading strategy - bringing in 'hot' players, moving on ''cold' players
" For example, an investor might put 80 to 90% of their money in extremely safe instruments, such as treasury bills, with the remainder going into highly risky and diversified speculative bets. An alternative suggestion is to engage in highly speculative bets with a limited downside (Black Swan)"
    - preferred strategy is to be both hyper-conservative and hyper-aggressive at the same time
-" Yes, sh** happens. The trick is to put yourself in a position to survive and even thrive when it does.”

It would help Cripps but I doubt they will allow Gibbs to go unless the deal is that good. Think the Crows will get Rockliff if they can, much easier deal to make
