For the record, I wouldn't be going near Shuey either, just think he has a good chance of going back to a 105+ average.
Barring any injuries our starting Midfield should be Nic Nat, Shuey, Gaff, Sheed, Redden, Jetta. With Yeo and Duggan switching between Half Back and the midfield, and Venables & Ah Chee doing the same from the Half Forward line.

Our Midfield and stoppage coach Nathan Van Berlo, just came out today and said “Expect to see something different” this year with our midfield and that goes with what we have been hearing all pre-season... The young kids are finally going to get their chance this year.

He also said that almost every player on West Coast’s list had been trialled in the midfield this pre-season as the club seeks to add some unpredictability to its play ahead of the home and away season.

Sheed , Redden, Ah Chee and Venables should be the biggest beneficiaries this year for those extra points.

Venables, Rioli & Ryan should all be good rookies so that boosts the numbers.

    hey LITS

love reading your insights into the Eagles.

do you think there is room for all of Rioli , Ryan and Venables in best 22.

I guess your forward line will be JJK , Darling , Lycett/Vardy.

Is Le Cras going around again.

    Hill ???

I know you were strong on Rioli last season , as was the club.

So 3 possible rookies + how is Watson looking for a defence spot.

    Cheers

that is good to know as you know how to play this game :-)

still like the price of Pendles and Jelwood as my other 2 or Cogs and Prestia/Redden.

Final selection will depend on how many rookies are named Round 1 and how cheap they all are.

Same 4 as above for me but I can't decide on the last 1/2. Gaz and Titch at the moment with a very thin forward line with Ah Chee at F3.

I can't help but feel like Pendles may be past it but won't be surprised at all if he comes out guns blazing.

Pendles was ave 110.00 before his bye (as was Jelwood) both enticing under $600,000.00.......just hard trying to work out which of the young ones will back up, could be a dozen or so capable of 110 +

Ah Chee at F3 is thin , must be very confident of 5 playing rookies , unless you have Bennell at F4.

Thanks, It's good that I can give that bit of insight to the Eagles that others on the East Coast might not be able to get elsewhere.

Definitely think there is room for all of Rioli, Ryan & Venables. Adam Simpson has already come out and said publicly that he wants to adopt a bit of the Richmond style with small forwards, and all 3 possess great speed. Rioli & Ryan will stay close to goals and with Rioli giving us that genuine crumber we have lacked and Ryan being so good in the air. Both like to tackle and use their pace to hunt down opponents. Rioli has dropped a further 7kgs this off-season so that will only help him.

Venables I think will take over that half forward flank position that Redden played last year with stints in the middle. We said just yesterday that we will be giving some young kids a chance in the middle and the fact Venables is very similar to Shuey with explosive pace and silky skills is just what we need more of in the middle. Remember the Eagles had Sam Powell-Pepper right under their nose at East Perth (Our WAFL team) and passed him over for Venables, just shows how much we rate Venables and his skillset. Everyone knew going into that draft that SPP would provide that instant impact at AFL level yet we still chose Venables.

I would have our forward line as Ryan, JK, Rioli and a HF line of Cripps, Darling, LeCras/Venables. With Lycett or Vardy off the bench to support Nic Nat but not both. Josh Hill was delisted at the end of last season.

We also want to get some games in Waterman so he should see some action this year as well. I'm not sure on their plans for Oscar Allen & Jarrod Brander but if they show form at East Perth I'm sure they will get a chance.

As for Watson, He will need to show some good form at East Perth, but I do expect him to get a chance at some stage. He has that explosive dash and X-factor about him that teams always desire. He should get some games but I wouldn't think he will be SC relevant though. But I'm super excited to see him get a game. Jackson Nelson & Tom Cole should be the biggest shot as securing Sam Butler's vacant defender spot.

Anyone looking at Ollie Wines, if he is every going to go full premo this would be the year to back him in.
Rocky adds contested support and Port's off season inclusions will add to team confidence if nothing else.

Just doesn't strike me as the type of player that will average enough to be one of the top midfielders.

Although, I said that at the start of last season about Dusty so who knows..

I'd don't see Ollie having the goal kicking contested marking impact of a dusty type, nor does he have the Tom Mitchell style piggishness that is required for uber premo. I would be very surprised if he lifted to the 110 plus category. I picked Ollie last year so note that I may have been a little bit burrrrrrned

    Quirky Stat of the day

In 2017, Rory Sloane played 22 games and averaged 110.2 yet he did not score between 93 and 118 for the entire season!

The hawks discussion in the defenders thread got me thinking about their mids this year. There seems like plenty of opportunity so I am thinking.....

Who steps up this year in the hawks mids to support super tommy?
Could it finally be the year of Jaeger?...I would never touch him in my SC team but if he actually steps up could this add a ceiling to Mitchell's SC scoring?
Are there rookies with opportunity....eg Worpel or are there too many other developed bodies in front of him.

Surely there is an opportunity for an SC scoring spike for one of the hawks mids at least...

    Thoughts?

    Awesome mate, thanks very much

I knew I forgot one from last season, Cripps.

from the bits and pieces I am reading Rioli and Ryan look likely for Round 1.

remember reading about Venables a lot before he was drafted so hopefully he gets a look in as well.

certainly could have 2 if not 3 cheap forward options to look out for.

how is Nic Nat shaping up and Lycett (coming off his own injury concerns) be hard to shift Vardy though after his season last year, also read that JJK is struggling at the moment.

I also have McGovern on my short list for defenders.

struggling to even think of their mids after Mitchell and JOM

they can't keep rely on throwing Burgoyne in their, Smith is outside, Shiels plays the run with role.

    Langford ???

so yes their could well be a opening, O'Rourke, Cousins, Lovell, Willsmore, Jones, Worpel etc etc
