don't worry about Turner , he is a gun.
Think its more to do with having an extra pace bowling option at the WACA more-so than anyone not liking anyone. Haha

Wouldn't be surprised if we possibly see Maxy in 5th test in Sydney though.

I think you need to use your contacts and find out the real reason.

if they need another bowling option play Bird, Starc and Cummins bat better than Marsh anyway, I am sorry until he has consistent full seasons at Shield and County level, he (Marsh) is not a test class batsmen.

the 2nd spinner will be interesting O'Keefe or Agar, Swepson taking wickets, Holland in form, Fawad Ahmed and of course no more red ball cricket until February grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr r

have said for years Cricket Australia need to have a A Test against NZ around Xmas to put some pressure on the players in the test side.

Need a bit of advice, my first draft for this year:

Lynn, Finch (VC), McCullum, Roy, Patterson (Maddinson, Voges)
    Peirson (Carey)
Watson (C), Narine, Ahmed, O'Connor, McKay (Gannon, Cartwright)

Is my team too top heavy?

Looks pretty bloody good to me!

Not too top heavy at all.

4 Thunder players for the round 1 DG is a good number.

    I like it

    Jan 11 Thunder v Scorchers
    Jan 12 Renegades v Stars
    Jan 13 Strikers v Scorchers
    Jan 13 Sixers v Thunder

Buttler and Willey may play when the Thunder meet the Scorchers on Jan 11, both are on a DGW and won't be available on Jan 13.
Roy and Billings won't take part on Jan 13 either.
On the Australian end I suppose if we are lucky the Gades and Stars ODI players may be available for the Jan 12 match, probably more unlikely than likely tho
There is also a tour match, England vs cricket Australia XI on the 11th of jan, so it’ll be even earlier that they’ll not be able to play. The last day of the Sydney test is 8th jan so I would expect that is the last day they will be available for bbl. they prob need to meet up with the squad on the 9th

McCullum and McLenaghan (5 then 10 DG) or Narine and Henriques (4 then 9)

2 DGR players vs 2 all rounders. If I go the first option, a scorchers bowler will be brought in instead of Klinger for rd 2.

Sunil Narine out of the tournament...

The Melbourne Renegades have secured two of the leading T20 all-rounders in world cricket, with Mohammad Nabi and Kieron Pollard set to replace Sunil Narine who has withdrawn from the tournament for personal reasons.

Nabi, an Afghanistan middle order batsman and right arm off-spinner, is ranked in the top 3 all-rounders on the ICC’s T20 Rankings and will join the Renegades for the start of the campaign.

Pollard’s match-winning capabilities are well-known to Australian audiences and the powerful West Indies all-rounder is expected to link up with the Renegades to replace Nabi later in the season.

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is the Renegades other overseas player and will be available throughout the season.

Nabi has played 58 T20 Internationals and became the first Afghan player selected in an IPL auction earlier this year.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to play in the Big Bash for the Melbourne Renegades,” he said.

“The tournament is highly regarded around the world and it is an experience I am looking forward to.”

Renegades Head Coach Andrew McDonald said the versatility provided by the side’s impressive all-rounder stocks will be important throughout the season.

“We wish Sunil all the best. At short notice we are pleased that we’ve been able to secure players of Mohammad and Kieron’s quality who will be important contributors this season for us,” he said.

Nabi and Bravo will join the Renegades in time for the first match against the Hurricanes on December 21.

well that makes my decision not to start Narine a lot easier :-)

Nabi is indeed a talent, good to see another Afghan player getting a go ? I wonder if this opens up Holland for a chance of selection as well.

Be interesting to see their line-up.

Pollard is interesting, another team, another T20 contract wonder if they tried to get Perera back.

Interesting that Nabi is not available for the entire tournament, if Afghanistan have commitments early in the new year, does this mean Rashid Khan will not be available as well for the whole tournament as well.

I know Afghanistan has been talking to Pakistan and Zimbabwe in regards to possible fixtures in January/February from memory.

    Cheers for that mate

Ludeman could be of interest if he bats high up the order, no Narine means that option as a opener has gone as well now.

I gather they will both have other practice games to come when the big boys might play.

That was my first thought too, but looking on Cricinfo I can't find any engagements for Afghanistan this summer other than a 3-match ODI series against Ireland, which is taking place right now.

Also I believe today is the last day for teams to get squads in, so expect more similar announcements!

Afghanistan are playing Zimbabwe in the UAE in 2 x T20, 5 x ODI from Feb 5 so unless they are having a camp/warm-ups before that I am not sure.

That’s nice ... can watch Pollard clear the cobwebs in his first game in round 9 before deciding to bring him in for the Gades final round 10 DGW!

Would be more chance of integrating the NZ comp into the BBL then that for $$$, but that's neither here nor there.

Any more news on Scorchers openers? Haven't found anything to figure out who opens with Klinger yet.

In other news, in my draft with friends late second round picks have included

Colin Munro: Not in comp this year
Rob Quiney: Debatable if he is first XI
    NCN: Injured, unlikely to play.

Everyone gets one sub before first game, so they arent dead in the comp buts its a Tambling level of wasted draft picks lol...

Well, could be worse, under your conditions my #1 choice was Narine...
