Yep, this. I do recall Williamson having a good boot and playing well a couple of times. Second year blues a concern but i reckon with the increase in opportunity, he'd be worth a look. Byrne another i recall Oz being keen on (maybe).

    Oz?

There is a little thought that O’Shea might play a similar role. At near basement price. Could be a bargain

At $166k he be a near lock you'd think. He's got a funny old history of scores, hard to really be sure what his ceiling is but at that price and at a new club with a potentially very fruitful role, he'd be as good an option as any.

Nice one, thanks ... had seen his name a few times but wasn't sure if that was hope or strategy. I've just upgraded my placeholder to him.

Gaz and Saad gone which can't hurt his scoring ability and has a decent scoring history (86, 87, 104, 96, 91 last 5). Has missed a lot of footy in 2 of the last 3 years though which hasn't been the case for most of his career.

Anyone else considering him at D4?

Darkie, do you or any of the other Pies supporters know the state of play with Adam Oxley? Had a ball tearer of a season in 2015 with 4 tons including a 148 but then injuries in 2016 and not seen in 217. If he shows up in the pre season I would have on my watch list but no sure if injuries have the better of him or he is not on of Bucks favourites or perhaps both.

Yes I like Hanley as well. Want to wait however and see his role with a new coach at GC. D/M handy as well

Subject to fitness, thekidsarealright will be looking very closely at a young blue Irishman from County Louth who tips the scales at $229,300. Heavily discounted price after a bad run of injuries; averaged 67 in 2016 prior to his acl injury.

I'm looking at Williams D1 then cheaper guys like Sicily, McGrath, Birchall as spending money down back last year cost me a lot.

Can probably take Weller off of this list now

Good tip, thanks Chels. From memory Oz was a fan, and he's a pretty good judge and a Blues supporter, so that bides well. One to watch.

I feel like Heath Shaw is worth a look with Wilson leaving, possibility of going 95+?

Reporting back on this, the feedback was:

    - Bucks likes him - the only reason he's still on our list. Didn't sound like he was seen as appealing.
    - Sam Murray the one to grab, will be given plenty of time/opportunity
    - Considering Maynard given more mid time

Interesting idea ... I did look at Shaw and I reckon he's a strong bet to outperform his price, it's mainly a question of whether he can get back to premium level. The Wilson move wasn't a factor I had considered ... although my impression was the issue with Shaw was more attention than an inferior role ... maybe a bit of both?

I thought GWS were just trying to transition away from relying on an aging Shaw over the last year or 2
but with one running hb gone unless someone else steps right up i can see more reliance on Shaw in 2018 again, maybe i am looking at this all wrong tho.

You may be right about that. I wonder whether they go back to Shaw (which could be logical) or try to develop someone else (he's obviously older again, and it's not like Wilson is out for a year and will then return) ... perhaps it depends on whether they have someone viable for that role, and how much they think it affects their premiership chances in 2018? Might need a closer Giants observer who has some insight on this ... The Misfit is typically resident expert on GWS.

Don't think I'd start with him, but an option for sure with Wilson leaving and his scoring history. A bit of a wait and see how he goes in my opinion.

Tbh I don't think Shaw's role changed at all last year, he just played pretty badly. Was very fumbly and made lots of errors, so I doubt anything will change in 2018 with another number added to his age.

He really did have a shocker this year. Two years of 105+ and then an 83 ... more than a 20% drop, and the worst since his debut year!

watched many Giants games this year and the majority he was basically playing the full back role and allowing Wilson and Williams to be the attackers , certainly had a role change.

Be interesting if they use Deledio and Griffen defensively next season.

Thanks for the clarification Herbie, keen to see how GWS move the ball off half back in the preseason.
