If Cameron is named inR1 then I'll consider bringing in a FD but until then I think trying to get 30 on the ground is the way to go.
The FD must also add extra pressure to the bye rounds best 18 as well?

Yeah another good point mate, round 14 is going to be the worst bye round we've had since they introduced the MBR I reckon, cutting the squad back one further just adds an extra degree of difficulty.

Trade through the byes so it shouldn’t matter too much, unless you got a couple extra out rd12

I think a lot of us were strapped during the byes even without intentional donuts. Too many unintentional ones from memory.

Do we think that Naughton is a must have rookie in defence?

I'm considering running 4 deep in defence so planning on Doedee, Murray, Finlayson and Murphy as my rookies. I'm expecting all four to play round one.

Would prefer Naughton over one of them but cash restraints don't allow this.

    Thoughts?

If only running 4 rookies up back then you can pass on Naughton imo. Do you plan on starting Siciliy an if so back or fwd?

Sicily up forward although could start him down back depending on whether I pick an extra defender or forward.

Greater Western Sydney football manager Wayne Campbell says WA small forward Zac Langdon is on target to make his AFL debut in round one.

Campbell said the Dampier and Claremont product hadn’t put a foot wrong since arriving at the Giants with pick 56 in last year’s national draft.

He expects the mature-aged recruit to not only play some “good senior footy” this season, but also for years to come.

“You’ll see Zac Langdon probably play round one, he was pick 56 from Perth last year,” Campbell told SEN.

“He’s 22 so he’s obviously a bit more mature than what some players are when they come in.

He had an injury scare in the Giants’ JLT Community Series loss to Sydney at Blacktown last Friday night when he left the field with a shoulder injury.

But he returned after half-time to finish with 10 disposals and three tackles.

Langdon received his chance at GWS after a stellar WAFL season at Claremont, booting 16 majors and averaging 16 disposals and a touch under four tackles in 14 matches. He bounced back after missing nearly two months with concussion from round five.

Campbell said the Giants’ national recruiting manager Adrian Caruso was “very keen” on getting him to the club.

“We’re not saying he’s the perfect player by any stretch ... but am I surprised he’s a chance for round one? Not after what Adrian told us and what we saw from day one,” he said.

“He works hard, he’s a really strong character, he’s had some adversity in his life which means that he digs in when it gets tough, and he’s got the technical skills to play footy.”

Pretty encouraging signs for a possible Rd1 debut.

Sounds like he was recruited to fill a specific role in their team and hasn't put a foot wrong since. That last sentence is a strong endorsement of how highly he's rated and that he'll be given every chance.

for those thinking of Sam Murray

this was posted on the AFL site

    Best 22 – round one

B: Brayden Maynard, Lynden Dunn, Tom Langdon
HB: Jeremy Howe, Darcy Moore, Jack Crisp
C: Will Hoskin-Elliott, Taylor Adams, Tom Phillips
HF: Travis Varcoe, Ben Reid, Steele Sidebottom
F: Jarryd Blair, Mason Cox, Alex Fasolo
Foll: Brody Grundy, Scott Pendlebury, Adam Treloar
I/C: Sam Murray, Jaidyn Stephenson, Josh Thomas, Callum Brown

Emerg: Brody Mihocek, Tim Broomhead, Ben Crocker, Josh Daicos

Aish, De Goey, Elliott, Greenwood , Wells all injured and will miss Round 1.

    no mention of Scharenberg

I would go with that back 6, if Varcoe plays back and possibly Tay Tay and Pendles not sure how Murray fits in and stays to be honest

might be one of those annoying rookies that only plays 2-3 games then gets dropped

    interesting times :-)

He gives the Pies something they lack in good ball use.

He stays in by playing well.

Lachlan Murphy will play the small pressure forward role vacated by Charlie Cameron.

I think he will play before Doedee.

I know a couple of the young blokes at GWS, went to school with them and was even in a couple SC leagues with them, they've told me that they reckon ZLG will be picked for round 1.
