I think the value is there to be found in the forward line this year. going to be a few unconventional forward lines around come round one.

If you think he'll get back to his 14/15 levels of scoring, starting him is probably a pretty fair judgement call.

KPP premium forwards are almost always better upgrade targets than starters

I think better options are there we just need the JLT to make it more obvious for us.

I think you might be getting drawn to the brand name by default rather than because he is a really great starting pick in his own right. Unless you do of course see him as a really great pick in his own right.

I’d rather take the punt on Smith or Stringer. I know they don’t have the scoring history but neither did Nank last year.

Roughhead will play up the ground a lot. I will be picking Smith. Besides Heeney and Gray I'm lost picking any alternatives. Billings hamstring has put me off.

Dahl I think is a better pick than Rough.

Don’t pick him for the sake of it cause you will have him for the duration barring injury. 92 won’t really cut it for mine.

A lot has changed since 2012 for him and the Hawks and that’s the last time he gave us 100.

Alternatively a 3-3 structure may work if rookies turn up.

Thoughts on starting Barlow and RGray? Is having them miss Rd 10 but being available (if fit) for the rest of the byes worthwhile? Also, thoughts on their roles in their respective teams? Think Barlow could score quite well if he gets more mid-time but worried about him getting stuck on a HFF. Is the addition of Rockliff likely to keep Gray stationed more in the F50? Do you think he will have sufficient fitness after his chemo?

Barlow is currently in my side and I agree with you8r comments so would be reluctant to start both IMO.

    Fantasy Freako
Bris vs Syd - Big tick for Christensen as he played all 3 games. Had 9 disposals and 2 goals in the GF
‏Christensen racked up a game-high 63 #AFLFantasy points in the GF - 22 more than any other player on the ground. #AFLX

Did a bit of digging on his stats at Brisbane

He's averaged 85 from 31 games excluding two games with <40%TOG (In 2016, R5 concussion; R11 collarbone injury).

Seems like a decent bet however, his injury history is the concern. Probably worth a punt though as an 85 avg might go close to being a fwd keeper

    All fair points Bomber.

I've been planning to start him as a cash cow, with an outside chance he performs at keeper level. Injuries seem like the key issue, maybe he is one you ride until he breaks/has a spike game to create a BE he won't go near.

Thoughts on Jack Martin from GC this year? Don't know much about him but looks an interesting prospect with a few years in the system and showed he can score well in periods last year. Not to mention will be a massive pod. Considering running him at F4. Can anyone add anything I should consider?

There's no doubting Petracca will increase his average, but by how much for him to be deemed a successful pick? If he averages 90, that's only a 10ppg increase on his starting average. Right in that awkward price range :?

I'm hoping for 95+ but wouldn't be too unhappy with 90. Looking at the forwards available this season and a 90 average would have put them 11th for forwards last season if we exclude Townsend and his average from just 2 games.

    Robbie Gray

He has a big article in today's Advertiser that about his diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

The one thing that stood out to me from a SC perspective is that he says in that article words to the effect of "I will primarily be playing in front of the goals". The article then says that he has been "training with the forwards all pre-season".

I think we are looking at a full-time forward in 2018. Surely that puts a ceiling on him and also raises the risk of the odd 50-60 score depending on what chances he gets in a given game. He could also get 140 if he kicks 5 goals which he is capable of. But the question mark is what will his average be?

Even Eddie Betts in an All-Australian year is not SC relevant in that kind of role. Perhaps the better comparison is Greene?

Then you have the uncertainty around his level of fitness post treatment. One too many question marks for my liking.

Agree not pickable in our starting teams in that circumstance. His bye means we can have a good look and see if he's working up to more mid time or is stuck in the forward line full time. Possibly good news for Rockliff?

That was what stood out to me as well (that and the fact that he seemed like a very nice bloke).

Upgrade target in my view, especially post bye if he has a couple of down games but is averaging okay, or if a couple of th Port mids go down, so his role shifts to fill the gap.

Yep that's enough to turn me off. I suspected he'd play predominantly forward anyway but now that it looks almost exclusively forward, that's enough for me to feel comfortable not starting him. As above, his bye is handy as we'll get to have a good look at him and with his high variance in scoring (2 x 30s, a 60 and a 70 in the first 8 rounds last year) we're every chance to get him at a discount if he doesn't go massive massive.

I am really struggling with my forwards though so it's nice to finally cross one off the list.

I am starting him at the moment. Read an article a month or so ago that said he had done strength work and had bulked up to help protect him from injuries.
