Aaaah! too much pre-season and not enough training.

    I can definitely relate.

Reports on twitter suggesting Bennell has been ordered to train away from the main group for 2 months with a 15k fine also.

If Freo stick with that, sounds like he'll miss all the preseason games and won't play Round 1...?

Can't see how training away from the group will make things better. Maybe they are just trying to stop a lynch mob forming amongst the other players. No point in firing him as we can't add to our list anyway. I remember reading an article many years ago that Fremantle were taking list management away from the head coach because every time a coach gets near the end of their 5 year plan they top it up with recycled players at the expense of the long term health of the club. Ross made a comment after the departure of Colin Sylvia that the club had to revue it's recruiting. I got the feeling he didn't agree with the recruitment of Sylvia in the first place.
I would love to know Ross's thoughts on how we just keep stuffing things up and how many of these decisions he has agreed with because he traditionally prefers the grinders rather than the high maintenance types.

Silly decision by the club, I agree, hard to see how it could help training away from the group.

Maybe it's just Freo's way of shifting him out, sideways. It might cost more to just show him the front door, and as they can't replace him on the list anyway, they leave the door open for the "miracle" that comes good by mid-season.

If they're going to remove him from the group they should get him away from all the distractions. Have him do some charity work in the outback or in another country for a month. Help build a school or a first aid centre in Nepal. He won't forget how to play football.

Perhaps he could team up with Colin Sylvia and build the "Bennell-Sylvia Academy for Footballers who like to Party Good but can't Make Good Decisions or do Other Stuff Good Either " ?

Better that they start a canteen together, Sylvia can eat the pies and Bennell can sell the coke...

Isn't this the same way they treated Walters a few years back, by making him train away from the club? Maybe they hope to get the same results.
I dont quite remember if it was a disciplinary reason or some other reason.

From memory, that was because he turned up to pre-season overweight, and unable to meet some pretty basic levels/times in training.
That's a different kettle of fish, for sure.

Buddy averaged 102 after round 6 - anyone going to pick him over Heeney?

I'll wait for the price drop. He is $540K which is his highest price at any point of any of the last 3 years. He regularly drops around the $450K mark during the year.

To St Kilda fans - I am really unsure about starting Billings this year. Would love to hear any insight into your thoughts and feelings about how he'll fare in 2018.

Hey everyone, need some input. At the moment I’m running with 3 midpricers in the forward line in DSmith, Stringer and Cyril. Would love to know anyone’s input on these 3. I feel like the two Essendon boys can be too 10 forwards, and that Cyril could be a good F6/7, and make 100k at worst.

Personally I think it's highly unlikely that either Smith or Stringer will be top 10 forwards. I think Smith is a slight chance but I think Stringer is highly unlikely. If I was to guess their averages I would say Smith will be 85-90 and Stringer will be 75-80. Just my gut feel.

I think we will see flashes of Cyril when he is at his 10 possession, 2 goal, 100 SC best but I don't think he is SC relevant anymore. Plus he has a terrible injury history and now he has an ill father to deal with too which I believe will lead to him missing games. I just can't see him averaging enough nor playing enough games to be a good pick.

I can see some value in Stringer. Priced at 65 from memory, has shown he can have some big games and needs to prove himself at a new club. I don't think he is stable enough to put together a whole season to be a keeper but could have a nice early price spike. I can't see Devon getting above 90. When I look at similar players like Greene, Wingard and Didak he appears to be a little bit below that class and has struggled with injury. Ben's Beasts summed up Cyril well.
