I suspect 3 will need to be replaced

    Sicily F5 , Finlayson M5

have gone 5-1-5 in the mids (Coniglio) , think (hope) we will get at least 2 of the el cheapos so if not may run 2 FDTP in their from the start.

Rucks is 2-0-1 , gone cold on Lycett , depending on how Nic Nat pulls up

Forwards are 5-1-2 , confident they are all premiums :-)

Christensen at F6 I am not confident on but only happy with Fritsch and Ryan as forward rookies at the moment.

$ 900,000.00 in the bank to work out which premium defenders I will start with.
With no premo Defenders id expect a full premo midfield tbh, 5-1 is what most people have and they still have 4-5 premos up forward, i just don't see how your risk down back
is giving you a leg up in another area? just my 2 cents mate.

are you taking into account the $ 900,000.00 in the bank ? which could have sent Cogs down to M8

basically set that up as a structure to work with , following the rookies.

Payne & Murphy already look doubtful , Keeffe probably won't and not as bullish on Doedee as most seem to be

so realistically 5 rookie defenders , 5 mids (Barry & Holman doubtful) & fingers crossed that Fritsch and Ryan work.

my original post where I had 0-0-8 defence stated I would probably upgrade 2/3 thereby using the $ 900,000.00.

named 8 rookie defenders where that was where the best rookies appear to be , had no intention of starting that way

    currently I am

    2-0-6
    5-1-5
    2-0-1
    5-0-3

with $277,000.00 in the bank to use if Coffield, Cole , Naughton , Doedee , Keeffe or Murray go missing for Round 1.

Finlayson if named Rd 1 will stay in the mids and Sicily will stay F5 then that way either/or can be swapped into defence if I need to make correction trades in Rd 3.

don't worry it all makes sense

Possibly start (eg) a Merrett or a Neale for the first few weeks, leave 150k in our salary cap, then waste a sideways trade to bring Danger in.

Not sure what to do, Have not considered not starting Danger in my team and now trying to build a team without him and I just can't get the right balance. Sounds easier to build a team with more money but I'm just not liking what I'm seeing.

Tempted to start him on the pine but would have to be 100% certain of where his injury is at.
    Hi Creeker
This is a very awkward situation with a number of unknowns. I am leaning towards starting with Danger as planned and making sure I have a decent bench cover. The main reason for doing this is that I want him in my team and I know from experience how hard it is to bring a high priced premium into the team. The first few weeks of trading will be spent, unless you are very skillful or lucky, correcting weaknesses in your team as the priority, so if you don't start with him I think you must accept you will not be able to bring him in till well into the season. If you start with him and he only misses 2 or 3 weeks (Geelong are very conservative with injuries so I suspect it will be at least 2 weeks even if a minor twinge) and he returns with all guns blazing then you will soon make up the points foregone and you will also be up a trade or two as well over those who bring him in at a later time. I think the reality is you either start with him or forget him.

If the injury happened mid-season you would just ride it out for the few weeks, so I believe that is the thing to do here.

Assuming it is just a minor injury, this is the way I am leaning.

    Hi guys,

I've seen a lot of talk around the defence structures with a few running the 2-0-7 format, but more common is the 3-0-7. Pending round 1 selections next week, I have been playing with a 1-0-7 set up. My defence looks like:

    Laird - Cole - Naughton - O'Shea - Doedee - Murray (Finalyson, Keefe)

I have Coffield as a mid bench linking the DPP between M/D on Coffield and Finlayson
Also running Sicily as a fwd linking the DPP between F/D on Sicily and Keefe

Brayshaw (M) and Fritsch (F) are my only other two playing rookies. After those 2 on field from price is Sicily, Petracca, Coniglio. So 7 on field playing rookies all up.

    My on-field structure sits as:

    1 - 0 - 5
    6 - 1 - 1 (coniglio)
    2 - 0 - 0
    3 - 2 - 1 (petracca, sicily)

    Thoughts?

If they all get selected it's viable. Just a matter of doing your XvYs with the relevant premos and rookies. You're in a tough spot if a couple of the DEF rookies go bad, as you're not left with much to correct to easily, so if the XvYs are close I would err towards not doing it. But if you have them 5 points up or more it may be worth it.

Would it be that bad if I went

    Savage - Bonner - Coffield - Cole - Naughton - Finlayson - Murray - Doedee

If we get Murphy and Miholok in R1 then they can be back up

I like it. With Sicily as back up and most of these defenders playing the easy first year roles at HB (look at Mcgrath and Burton last year) I give it a fair shot to come through.

Risky but could pay off handsomely. Would rather have a second mid rookie on field than a forward rookie.

Don't mind it but I guessing you aren't starting Danger? You've filled M1-M7 with hopeful keepers already and I'm guessing you would have to up one of them to Danger or bring him into your last keeper spot (I'm assuming we will all expect to finish with Danger). Just might reduce the chance to get onto a fallen super-premo opportunity elsewhere if someone has a concussion affected score (such as Jelwood did last year). But I guess the same could be said about any line.
