When time permits, I'll endeavour to provide an update on players contained within the current Top 10 teams on the overall rankings.

    Round 4

    Name: Leaders - Rd4.jpg
Views: 523
Size: 337.3 KB

Leader has put a gap of 111 points to 2nd place, whilst only 52 points separates 2nd to 10th.

Some interesting choice of players, particularly the 'early bolters' in Gibbs, Macrae, Grundy & Acres. All in all, team structures are to be expected.

No fuss Rucks line with Grundy/Martin/NN as partner to Gawn being popular, only 9th has a playing R3.

this year feels like a different year to others in that teams are so similar. or am i imagining things? i don't know how i'm going to close the gap with so many similar players and the trade in options likely to be the same across the board.

edit - sorry this sounds really vague, hope it makes sense to someone in SCS land!

Think there's a core of about 10 premos that everyone has, which feels like a lot. Still so many moving parts though.

We just have to upgrade faster and better; pick the right rookies to offload and the ones to keep on field, and get the timing right; pick the premos that have gone well to get the leaders up there that we want to bet against (Lloyd?, Macrae??, Savage???, Walters???, Parker?????, S. Martin??????) and target them with good PODs (???); get our C scores right; pray??

The guy in 4th is in my work league. He is in an awesome spot I reckon. Smart trading and hes the one to beat. Consistent every year so will be around the mark. Mark my words.

Seemingly nothing decision at the start of the year but T.English R3 could be a factor in the future.

It's frustrating isn't it? Shows how much difference a particular player, Captain and rookie on feild choices are.

    quite interesting to see

Hindsight is a wonderful , but this morning played around with some figures and found this.

Perhaps the simplest KISS method is sometimes the best

    Laird , Hurley , Yeo , Finlayson , Doedee , Murray (Murphy , Naughton)

    Mitchell , Martin , Coniglio , Fyfe , Dangerfield , Cripps , T Kelly , Holman (Banfield , L Fogarty , Barry)

    Gawn , Naitanui (English)

    Franklin , Heeney , Menegola , Ryan , Waterman , Fritsch (Garlett , ZGL)

    pure Guns and Rookies

on averages alone would give you 9464

    * need to adjust for Danger missing 1 game
    * need to adjust for Ryan missing 1 game

and I am sure people could state their case for starting different premiums (eg McLean ) someone may have even started Hogan , Parfitt , Acres , Darling etc etc.

Even if you started Hibberd and Billings your team probably would still be in a strong position.

What is shows me is KISS , don't over think or complicate things and remember what Rowsus says , build your team around the Rookies that are named.

    16 starting rookies

    3-6-2-3

    bring on 2019

and yeah if all those 14 premiums started as duds I would not have written this post.

We can thank the Herald Sun for everyone's team being the same this year. With the amount of info they spoon fed the public, It was inevitable that teams would end up even more similar than previous years.

Really miss the days when we had to our own research.

Yep, and the popular choices have happened to be (mostly) the right ones so far this year.

Negative Pods are killer. No Dusty or Heeney for me, Dusty especially will kill me on a weekly basis. Gray and Grundy are nice pods though.

Old mate in 4th got stung with Mitchell as Captain. Traded in Coffield and Parfitt. I'm 113 in front with same players to come except my Pendles vs his Grundy. Those small decisions can kill you. For mine its crucial to nail that vc loop. It aint a throw away bonus. Getting it right and not having to rely wholly on a Captain can be huge. Especially if you want to contend at the top end.

I'm surprised how many held onto ZGL/Ryan - 8 out of 10 still has one of them.

I traded both in order to keep cash generation going - what am I missing?
