Also from the same AFL article...

ADELAIDE'S injury crisis has claimed skipper Taylor Walker, while All Australian midfielder Matt Crouch and lock-down defender Luke Brown are in doubt for Friday night's clash with the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval.

Forward Riley Knight has also been ruled out with hamstring tendinitis, but ruckman Sam Jacobs has been cleared to play after overcoming a back injury.

Crouch and Brown are sore from last Saturday night's thrilling five-point Showdown loss to Port Adelaide.

I think Gallucci, Poholke, Milera and Fogarty are probably all ahead of him depending on how they want to roll with their mix of talls and smalls. Eddie seems to have come good again too after a slow start.

TEX OUT FOR 'NEXT FEW WEEKS' AS MORE INJURY WOES STRIKE CROWS

ADELAIDE captain Taylor Walker will miss the "next few weeks" in a bid to get his body right.

Walker missed much of the pre-season with a foot injury and didn't play a JLT Series matches in the lead-up to the season.

He missed Round 1 but returned for the win over Richmond in Round 2 but has at times lacked his usual impact.

The Crows revealed today they have made the decision to rule him out of the clash against the Bulldogs tomorrow night and he will undergo a strength and conditioning program in a bid to get his body right and build his fitness.

The club has admitted he has been "restricted in his ability to get through training and games" in recent weeks.

He won't return until he is "fully fit".

Riley Knight will also miss the next few weeks as he continues to battle hamstring tendinitis.

“It’s obviously not an ideal situation but once again shows the importance of completing a full preseason, which both Taylor and Riley were unable to do due to injuries,” Adelaide football boss Brett Burton said.
ok I have to reverse trade, as I brought in Crouch earlier this week. Will put that to bed until I have more info regarding what Crouch's soreness is from, if hammy related, i'm not going there...

VINEY BACK IN ACTION FOR DEES

Jack Viney will play for Melbourne this week.

The Melbourne co-captain is yet to play a match this year following a foot injury.

“Jack Viney was ready to play AFL last week. We just went with a cautious approach,” coach Simon Goodwin said.

“Viney trained fully this week. After a difficult and long road back. He pushed us to try and play finals last year. He puts the team first. We are proud to get him back.

“Viney has missed a lot of footy, but we take every case on its merits. It was a different situation last year.”

I haven't been blown away by Poholke or Gallucci - wouldn't be surprised if Murphy was given a chance over one of them this week - but will find out in a few hours I guess!

DELEDIO STILL BATTLING ANOTHER SOFT TISSUE INJURY

GWS veteran Brett Deledio is hopeful of returning from his latest soft tissue injury next week but admits that is no guarantee.

Deledio has missed the last two matches with a hamstring injury suffered late in the win over Brisbane in Round 6.

it was described at the time as tightness and the Giants were hopeful he would miss one, maybe two weeks.

But he won't play again this week and despite being hopeful, is no certainly to return for the Round 10 clash with Essendon.

"It hasn't recovered quite the way I would have liked," Deledio said. "It's been around my tendon and they tend to take a little bit of time.

"I'm running a fair bit and I'm hoping to be back next week. If not, given my previous history, then the week after. We'll just have to wait and see.

"it's not ideal. I was really starting to enjoy my footy and then you start to question what's going on again.

"We're doing everything we can and I'll be back when I'm back."

Deledio had been producing the best football he's played since crossing from Richmond to GWS, averaging 23 disposals and six marks in his six matches.

He is just one of a number of big-name Giants to be sidelined with injury, joining Josh Kelly (groin), Toby Greene (foot), Tom Scully (ankle), Phil Davis (concussion) and Zac Williams (achilles).

The mounting injury toll has tested coach Leon Cameron's depth and resulted in disappointing on-field results as the Giants tumbled out of the top eight after back-to-back losses to Geelong and West Coast.

"There's injuries and then there's injuries to your best four or five players and we're certainly experiencing that at the moment and have done for the last four or five weeks," he told RSN927.

"It makes it challenging. It puts so much more pressure on the guys that are playing who are our best players to really perform at a high level week in, week out.

"That all takes its toll, especially come the end of the year."

PENDLEBURY IN DOUBT FOR SAINTS CLASH

    By Kate Salemme

COLLINGWOOD captain Scott Pendlebury is no certainty to return from an ankle injury against St Kilda on Saturday night.

Pendlebury was a late withdrawal for the Magpies for Sunday's loss to Geelong after suffering the injury against the Lions.

He will need to prove his fitness during the team's main training session today.

"We'll have a look how he trains," football boss Geoff Walsh said.

"Right now he's hopeful, we're hopeful but the proof, as was the case last week, will be in how well he'll be able to train and how pain-free he is in the session."

The Magpies are also hopeful midfielder Tom Phillips will face the Saints despite suffering concussion against the Cats.

"He's pulled up really well, he's had the cog state tests during the week and he's doing well on those," Walsh told the club's website.

"We're hopeful Tom will be cleared to play."

Ben Reid is pushing to return against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium after missing two matches with an achilles injury but Walsh said he's more likely to return next week.

Defender Brayden Maynard is at least another 1-2 weeks away with an ankle injury sustained in Round 6.

Edit: Jeez, how did I miss Ben's post? Too early in the morning.

Anyway, to justify a post, Clarke is definitely one to keep on the radar. Inside accumulator.

    Any intel on Ridley, mate?
Ridley is your 3rd tall defender type (at around 192cm but still needs more time on the weights). He is a good reader of the play and good intercept mark; and his kicking skills and disposal efficiency should be high. He missed most of his first year at the club with a long term injury. Hopefully these strengths will remain the case going up to AFL level but the main current issue moving up to AFL level is that he will simply is not physically strong enough yet. Eg Tom Hawks would smash him in a one on one marking contest, but his strength would be to run off his own man to go intercept the ball before it gets to say a Hawkins/Hooker contest. SC wise I think he will have a good SC/DT ratio, but the question is how often will get the pill at AFL in his early days?

Clarke on the other hand is an inside accumulator as Zimmer said. He will find the ball at will, and from a Bomber perspective I hope they stick him in the guts and not hide him on a wing/flank. His mian knock over the years has been he is a butcher of the ball, however this has improved over time. Risk is at AFL level with that extra pressure he again butchers the ball too much. For DT absolutely lock him in, at SC level lets see he he goes in his first two weeks.

Nat Fyfe tested out sore knee @freodockers training but is expected to face Sydney.

Walters (knee) and Wilson (back) to return, Stephen Hill (quad) another week away. Bennell in with main training group, Lyon says he's running with as much "speed and power as we've seen".

Sweating on Crouch and Pendles, given they are both a bit different, my team would be crippled.
