Anybody thinking about going early on Brander and trading him in this round?

For mine, it would be great if he provided coverage for the remainder of the season but it’s more likely he makes way for Darling when he returns. To me this is no big deal as he is really just needed for his scores over the remaining byes and he can then become a floating donut.

Provides a handy link with Sicily too which could be useful.

If I did pick him up it wouldn't be unsighted for round 13. Could be an option for me for Rd14

Nice looking team that but i agree you don't have any obvious trades this week.

I think the biggest issue for you is the lack of downgrade targets. Personally, i'm generally not a fan of bringing in 200kers because he doesn't really generate any cash for you and at this stage of your team's development he'll just eventually end up on your bench but considering the other options available i'm not sure what i'd do either. Brander could be an option for the reasons BB mentioned but i don't think he's cheap enough to choose over Ryan and Giro's JS is pretty questionable and also misses next week so his value diminishes somewhat.

It takes balls to trade Gawn no doubt but as we saw on the weekend he's not indestructible and it could be argued that Kreuzer, NicNat and Ryder are all chances to average the same as him on the run home, with the added bonus of playing an extra game so theoretically can still average whatever % less than Gawn to break even.

Trading Gawn is not ideal but i think it has merit in your situation. It's not for the faint hearted but considering his ownership and how many teams are hurting this week, the premium score you add may just make it worthwhile, especially if Kreuzer can not be too big of a negative POD on the run home.

    Thinking....

    Doedee > K Simpson
    Fritsch > T Mclean
    Spargo > Brander?

Doedee and Fritsch have been solid but... I'm boned this week and next so warm bodies are important!

    Thoughts?

Considering trading Fritsch to one of the WC rookies. Traded in L Ryan in Round 3 as ZGL was injured and then traded L Ryan out in RD4. Brining L Ryan in again would free up 220,000 and then he would be traded to a loophole player later in the season freeing up around 180,000 thus 400,000 in total.

    Current RD14 plan:
Out: E Phillips, B Ronke, In: P Ahern, P Cripps (via M Walters)
    Post Byes plan (Rd 15-18):
    Out: L Austin, N Holman, In: J Lloyd/J Webster, D Martin

    Ideal team post byes:
    Def: R Laird, K Simpson, J Sicily, E Yeo, M Hurley, J Lloyd/J Webster, (T Doedee, I Cumming)
    Mid: P Dangerfield, N Fyfe, T Mitchell, C Oliver, J Kelly, D Zorko, P Cripps, D Martin, (S Coniglio, P Ahern, C Ballard)
    Ruck: M Gawn, M Kreuzer, (D Cameron)
    Fwd: I Heeney, T McLean, R Gray, M Walters, D Smith, C Wingard, (J Billings, loophole)

Or I could select J Brander instead allowing me a Def/Fwd switch between him and Sicily but I will have 150,000 left as he will not be traded and this means that I would have to select a D6 between 350,000 to 450,000 which depends on whether Austin is traded to J Smith next week as that allows me to select a D6 over 400,000.

Therefore should I trade Fritsch to Ryan or Brander.

    Greatly appreciate any thoughts/feedback.
So you would eventually make Brander your floating donut and then generate cash elsewhere? I think i prefer that option over Ryan in/Ryan out because of his pricetag and your trade plans. You have the option of Doedee down to Redman/Smith next week if you were happy to go early, which will give you an extra number in rd 14 and allow you to add another premo if there was one you were keen on outside of Lloyd/Webster/Dusty.

It's a tough one with Fritsch but i think if it's a true upgrade like going up to McLean is i'd pull the trigger. If you were going to a JJK/Wingard type i probably wouldn't.

The risks attached to Brander are pretty obvious but if you need the cash and the extra number this week and next there probably isn't a better option.

I was trying to find a way to keep Fritsch, but it compromises my final upgrade selections too much.
Golden rule number 1 - Don’t get attached to rookies => upgrading to McLean is a great trade every day of the week (Doedee to Simmo is a bit closer, but still the right thing to do IMO)

Sick one mate. I'd take Petracca ahead of Hibberd cos he at least looks like scoring ok from time to time and Simpson and Gray are pretty even for mine so Hibberd for Simpson would be the way i go.

I'm a little concerned with Gray actually. He looks like he's playing almost exclusively forward now so much more dependent on goals to score well. Admittedly, Port do have a nice run coming up with WB, Carlton, Stk, Freo in their next 5 but as shown against GC, easier opponents don't necessarily mean more goals.

    Rd 2-7, averaged 28 disposals, 0.67 goals, 115sc, 5/6 over 100
    Rd 8-12, averaged 16 disposals, 3 goals, 94sc, 1/4 over 100 where he kicked 6 goals

If i didn't have him, i'm not sure i'd be bringing him in.

The other option is i just hold both and save some trades going forward but probably tough to keep both at this stage how they are going!

Some tough choices for me this week:

    Confirmed out: McInerney
    In: Olango donut.

Other two outs are: Taranto and Guelfi
    In: Gray/Westhoff & Wingard/JJK

The rest of my forward line is:

    Heeney, Mclean, D.Smith, Hogan, Fritsch

Which 2 of the above options would you guys bring in?

Alternatively could just go Guelfi to Westhoff/Gray and keep Taranto...

It will mean I only have 18 playing this week but are JJK or Wingard worth burning a trade on when Taranto could potentially average similar anyway?

JJK is wildly inconsistent and Wingard is too and may not continue playing midfield minutes. The positive with him is he has averaged 90 consistently before I just don’t know if it’s worth while trading Taranto to him?

Negative side would mean down to 9 trades after the other 2, upside the forward line would then have Wingard or JJK to rotate as F6 and F7 with Fritsch.

JJK potential to go large could help too as they play later for most of the year if Fritsch or Hogan score poorly.
I like the Hoff over Gray and the other 2 are hard to split so a preference thing i think. I'm going with Wingard with the hope he continues to rotate through the midfield but JJK's ceiling makes him just as appealing.

Not sure if it's worth trading Taranto out for them though, if the extra player this week is not needed.

Bit of a prep week for the season for me:

Fritsch, ZGL and Geulfi to McLean, Ryan and Ahern.

Ryan to serve as a back-up for the rest of the season if needed, Ahern to create a mid-fwd link.

Next week Kelly and Hurley in to finish my side.

No JJK, but happy enough with my team.

Nank the weakness, will see. Perhaps I upgrade him in R14/15.

Anyone with Walters trading him out. If I trade him to JJK get 2 extra premium scores over the next 2 weeks and 18 this week. Leaves Doedee and a back line rookie, 70k, 9 trades. Seems worthwhile.

Yes Brander would eventually be my floating donut.
The Brander trade will make between 130,000 to 150,000 less than the 2 Ryan trades but I could trade Austin to J Smith next week instead which would nearly make the difference.

Unless there is less than 200,000 difference between Ronke and Cripps in rd14 a 3 trade is necessary which is why I am considering trading Fritsch out this week to allow the upgrade next week. The only other option is trading Austin to Smith in RD14 which means Fritsch will stay till Rd15.

This one has some merit and I'm considering it myself. I currently have 3 upgrades left, 2 in the mids and 1 in def. Yours leaves you with only 2 upgrades so I'd do it.

Walters really irritating but I've decided to offload Trac this round and have Walters in my final side over Trac. Means I'm quite tight for numbers next round but hopefully helps me out long term.

So Ronke/Trac/Guelfi out for Simmo/McLean/Ahern for me!

Next round I plan to do Doedee/Murphy to Redman/Oliver and possibly Savage to Hurley
